Again with the busy weeks last week. Hopefully this upcoming week is a little more chill.
- NPR: A Major Report Warns Climate Change Is Accelerating And Humans Must Cut Emissions Now
- Heated: “What can I do?” Anything.
I’m not sure what I could say about climate change that I haven’t already said, or that someone else hasn’t already said (and probably better). It’s bad, you guys. We either buckle down and do something now or… well, this planet isn’t going to be livable in a few decades. Not for humans, anyway. Probably not for much of anything.
Like climate change, I find the topic of COVID-19 utterly exhausting. You guys, we are almost two years into this goddamn mess, and the solutions to this problem are still the same. Stay home as much as you can. Wash your hands. Wear a mask. Get your shots.
If everyone had done that a year ago instead of crying because they couldn’t have hair cuts and screaming at grocery store workers in the produce aisle and shooting Walmart clerks and whatever else, this shit would be over now.
Now? This shit is endemic. That means COVID-19 is never going away. You heard me. This is a thing we live with now, like colds and tummy bugs and influenza. We’ll be dodging it for decades, getting booster shots every year, wearing masks off and on depending on local case counts. It will kill people every single year because selfish ignorant people won’t get a shot.
- Washington Post: Deceptions and lies: What really happened in Afghanistan
- CNN: The latest on Afghanistan
- AP: Biden team surprised by rapid Taliban gains in Afghanistan
I thought going into Afghanistan was a bad idea when we did it. I think there’s no real point in staying any longer, and I think anyone who’s surprised to see the government we installed fall apart the second we look away hasn’t been paying a lick of attention the last twenty years. I think it’s a goddamn heartbreaking shame what’s happening there now, and I think we’re a giant pile of sweaty assholes for not arranging for an orderly exit that brought every single person who helped us along with us, as well as every single refugee who wanted to go. I think Biden was right to pull us out, and I think he should be ashamed of how the retreat is going. I don’t know what else to tell you.
I don’t know if this is true or not, but I do know that we better vote in plenty of goddamn Democrats in 2022. We better work our asses off and get as many progressives in office as we can find. We better do that for the federal government, the state governments, your local governments, and your school boards. Hell, you better find out who the dog catcher voted for in 2020 before you write his name in. No more GOP in office. Not if we expect this country to last much longer.
