I got my first shot of Moderna a week ago today. I had a sore arm and some swollen lymph nodes for a couple days after the shot, no biggie.
This morning I woke up with a swollen lymph node, again. Just the one. I assume that’s either a slacker lymph node who just noticed she had work she was supposed to be doing, or an overachiever lymph node who’s still firing out antibodies like some kind of Type-A middle manager or something.
Or maybe she just got back from vacation and was all like “What the hell happened while I was gone, guys? Jesus,” and had to scramble to catch up. We all know that feel.
Anyway, some news I read this morning:
👮 Kim Potter, the (former, now, she resigned) police officer who somehow managed to “mistake” her taser for her gun and “accidentally” shot Daunte Wright to death for basically no goddamn reason, has been arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter. I suppose there’s an argument to be made that my sarcasm quotes are unfair, but how do you manage to mistake a taser for a whole-ass gun? And why on earth were you tasing the kid to begin with? You pulled him over for a dangly pine tree on his rear view mirror. How did he end up dead?
👴 Biden says he’s going to pull all American troops out of Afghanistan by Sept. 11 of this year, which, I mean, I guess that’s good? Like, yes, end the forever wars, please, but also, we made a hellacious mess of things over there, don’t we have some kind of responsibility to clean it up? We are going to do something about that, right? Because otherwise we’re just abandoning everyone to the Taliban again, and isn’t that kind of how we ended up in this mess in the first place?
⚰️ Hey, Bernie Madoff died. He’s the guy who pulled the biggest Ponzi scheme in US history. Fuck that guy.
🗑️ Matt Gaetz is just trash, trash, trash. Apparently the human garbage can was attending sex and drug parties in Florida where it certainly looks like women were being paid for sex and Gaetz was maybe doing drugs.
🗑️ Also, Gaetz’ buddy Joel Greenberg has been cooperating with investigators since last year. I think there’s a Florida representative who’s going to jail this year, what do you think?
🦠 We still don’t know for sure where COVID-19 came from. There are two main theories: humans caught it naturally from contact with infected animals, or possibly via lab accident. Here “lab accident” means some lab in Wuhan was studying the COVID-19 virus and a lab person caught it because they weren’t being careful enough, not that China made the virus and released it on everyone on purpose, Donald. We know the virus isn’t man-made, that’s for sure. It seems like the more likely theory is that humans caught it from contact with infected animals.
💉 Two of the COVID-19 vaccines in use have been linked with blood clots: the AstraZeneca vaccine and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. These are both “traditional” vaccines, made using an adenovirus, which is not uncommon. It’s also probably what’s causing the blood clot problem.
🏛️ The House is getting ready to vote on creating a commission that will study the feasibility of slavery reparations in the US. I think reparations are a great idea. I just don’t think they should be the only idea. When it comes to racism in America, we have a lot of mess to clean up. Just money won’t do the trick, guys.
👮 The U.S. Capitol Police had advance warning that shit was gonna get real on Jan. 6. They were warned to expect violent protestors who were deliberately targeting Congress.
