President Donald Trump acknowledged Thursday that he had spoken with Israeli officials about the planned visit of Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib to the country this weekend, just hours after Israel announced they had reversed course and would prohibit the pair from entering the country.
“I don’t want to comment about who I spoke to, but I think my social media statement pretty well speaks for itself,” Trump told reporters as he traveled from his summer getaway in New Jersey to New Hampshire for a campaign rally. “But I did speak to people over there.”
I don’t even know what to say about this. If literally any other modern president had done this, it would have been a wall-to-wall scandal for months. For the Trump administration it’s barely a bump in the road.
